3 Simple SEO Techniques
There are 3 very basic items every website should have. The page title, meta tags and header tags. You want your web page to rank high in search engines, this is how you start. Now let´s discuss the 3 simple techniques:
Page Title: The page title is one of the most important tags that you can have on your website. This is the information appearing at the top of every website. This is the first thing that search engines look at; it is how they know what the page will be containing. These words should describe your website briefly, but as full as possible. Search engines want to see a central theme on your pages; they don´t want to see subjects bouncing around all over the place. Keep your information related and in order. Your page title should contain your main keywords (keywords are the main words people use to search for their information). Keywords should not be stuffed in anywhere they can fit, your content should be unique and helpful to you visitors not stuffed just to obtain traffic.
Meta Tags: Meta tags are the HTML code inserted above all of the other code in your site. Meta tags also play a rather large role in search engine optimization (SEO). Meta tags were highly abused when they were first implemented, so over the years, they have lost their impact on rankings, but they are still very important. As I stated above, search engines like to see a theme on a website´s page, this is just another way to show search engines that your website is not spam and should be taken seriously. Meta tags can hold a lot of information for your site. The main purpose of meta tags are so that search engines can show your website´s information accurately. You should spend most of your time on your "keywords" and your "description." These are what the search engines want to see. They want an accurate description about your website and they want to know the main keywords of that page. This is where you can stuff all of your keywords into. I recommend that you only use 5 to 8 keywords. Put your keywords in order from the most searched into the least searched. Same goes for your description, try and put your most searched keywords in the first couple words of the description.
Header Tags: Header Tags are often overlooked, but should not be forgotten. The header tags, give certain keywords, more importance. Titles should be h1, subtitles h2, and so on and so forth. Header tags can also be spammed very easily, so be careful where and how you use them. Keep them uniform, like above, titles at h1and subtitles at h2 or h3, don´t jump around and put header tags all over the place with different sizes and on pointless words, it will just look like spam to search engines.
There is a lot more to search engine optimization (SEO) than these simple techniques, but you are now on your way to getting your website ranked. Proper coding is often ignored, put as much care into your code as you do your design.
